Culinary usage

Cooking Direction Boil water.
  • Add lentils. When it comes back to a boil, cook for five minutes uncovered, then turn the heat down and cover, cook for 15 minutes.
  • Add salt, ginger, chilli, coriander, cumin and turmeric.
  • Turn heat down to low.
  • In a small pan, heat oil until very hot.
  • Turn off heat and let sit for five minutes.
Masoor dal can be eaten soaked, germinated, cooked, fried and baked. In the Indian subcontinent, lentil curry is a part of the everyday diet, eaten with both rice and roti.
